Our wedding

Thanks to everyone who came to our wedding or sent us their wishes - we had a magical day! The Devon woodlands were beautiful in the unexpected sunshine, and it was so amazing to have so many of the people we love in one place. We have now begun our honeymoon overland trip to India - check out the Overland Adventure page for more details.

Friday - the registry office

On the Friday before our main wedding celebration we had the legal part of the wedding with our close family members. The day started off with a mad flurry of activity to set up The Glade venue for the next day. We were so busy that the legal part of the wedding almost slipped our minds! Jemima and Paige (Maid of Honour) were delayed getting ready, and had to ask Sam and Carl (Best Man) to make their bouquets - they were rather anxious at the idea! We then almost forgot our wedding rings, had to do the bride's hair while in the car, and nearly missed the ceremony! Despite this it was a lovely day, and we had a delicious afternoon tea and prosecco afterwards to celebrate.

Saturday - the woodland wedding

After a very rainy July, we had been quite stressed about the weather for our outdoors woodland wedding. On Saturday morning we were relieved to see some blue sky and sunshine! We spent the morning decorating the venue with several lovely family and friends helping us. Jemima and Paige then went to get ready while the guests started to arrive and enjoyed a welcome drink of Pimms. The Glade looked festive and colourful with multicoloured bunting, strings of fairy lights and the rustling green leaves overhead. There were a range of activities available, from a memory slideshow to a nature scavenger hunt to a wishing tree to add messages. The guests were then invited to sit on wooden benches in front of the stage area, and the flower girls, maid of honour and bride made their entrance down the isle! Benji (Jemima's brother) was a witty and personable officiant for the ceremony, and following an exchange of rings and a celtic handfasting, confetti was thrown in celebration (at times with perhaps too much excitement!). A delicious Indian buffet meal soon followed (supplied by Dartmoor Larder caterers) and the smell of curry filled the air. The beautiful wedding cake then arrived, with two little foxes on the top! Before we could tuck in there were some heartfelt speeches and toasts to be heard, which left many in the audience quite emotional. Unfortunately, we then had a mishap with the generator which we initially thought would put an end to our planned musical performances. However, what happened next ended up being one of our highlights - we all gathered around the fire pit to listen to acoustic musical performances, which made them so much more intimate and special. The Ceilidh band arrived soon after, and we all had an amazing time dancing (or tripping over each other!), egged on by the enthusiasm of the band's caller. The day's excitement was finished off with a flamenco dance by Sam's mum and an Elvis performance by Sam's dad, which had everyone up and dancing by the end! We thoroughly enjoyed our Woodland Wedding and couldn't have asked for a better day.

Location

The wedding was in a woodland site called The Glade in Dartington, Devon, TQ9 6EH. It was a festival style wedding with several different areas including a stage, woodland bar, fire pit and a wooden structure called the nest.
