Monaco

Monaco City

After waking very tired from Lucy and Kaan's wedding the night before, we realised we had to walk over an hour in the heat to reach our bus to Monaco! We were very hot and sweaty when we caught the bus, and spent most of the day traveling. We found Monaco to be a very striking city surrounded by cliffs and the sparkling blue sea of the ‘Cote d’Azur’. We headed to our Air BnB, which was a small yacht in the marina! It was a bit stuffy in the heat, but had amazing views of Monaco and we enjoyed the surreal experience of being surrounded by superyachts and observing the rich residents and visitors.

The next day we woke surprisingly well rested after a night on the little yacht. After breakfast on board, we decided to cool off at the beach. It was on the other side of the country, so we took a bus there which took a whole 20 minutes! The sea was incredibly blue and very refreshing. We had lunch at the beach, and then went to the Oceanographic museum - a Honeymoon gift from Vikki and Calum (Jem's parents). We particularly enjoyed seeing transparent jellyfish bobbing along and some other unusual sea creatures. We were also impressed by a tiny 2 person submarine and the first ever submarine from the 1700s, which was made of wood and only fit one person! After heading back to the boat to change into smarter clothes, we went to the Monte Carlo casino. We decided after some consideration not to gamble away our trip money, but did get to have a look at the very fancy lobby. We then went out for a romanic meal at a fancy Japanese restaurant - thanks to Laurence and Carol for the Honeymoon gift. Then back to the boat for our final night in Monaco before travelling to Italy in the morning!
